The itinerary begins with a visit to the archaeological site of the Greek Walls, the only visible testimony of the large megalithic city walls of the 4th century BC. These ancient fortifications tell the story of the first populations who inhabited the Mottola plateau, offering a breathtaking panorama of the Murgia Tarantine.
🔹 The Historic Center – “Schiavonia”
The tour continues with a stroll through the narrow streets of the evocative Historic Center of Mottola, known in medieval times as “Schiavonia”. The houses built in local tufa stone and whitewashed with white lime evoke the typical atmosphere of Apulian towns, where time seems to have stood still.
🔹 The Chapel of the Annunciation
The tour concludes with a visit to the Chapel of the Annunciation, dating back to the 16th century, which houses a magnificent fresco on the apse depicting the Annunciation of the Virgin, an authentic masterpiece of sacred art.
